With social media and our connected devices making it easier than ever for people to cheat on their partners, it’s little wonder that instances of infidelity are on the rise.
However, there’s a new term that’s entered our vocabulary – micro-cheating – and it’s one that requires a little bit of explaining.
Elite Daily recently explained that micro-cheating can be defined differently by different people, which is part of the problem. In essence, though, it’s behaviour that can lead you towards the idea of cheating, without actually taking that next step.
Dating expert and marriage therapist Anita Chlipala told the news provider that “it’s a way to tiptoe to the edge of cheating without fully jumping in”.
Micro-cheating can include a host of behaviours, such as flirting with someone either in person or via social media, or even going for a drink with someone you find intriguing. Ms Chlipala said that the key is whether you’re open with your partner about it, or hide it.
“The most important factor is secrecy,” she asserted. “Being deliberately sneaky and hiding things is a huge warning sign you’re doing something you probably shouldn’t be doing.”
Earlier this month, psychiatrist Dr Kenneth Paul Rosenberg wrote a piece for the Daily Mail, in which he explained that the profile of an adulterer is more complex than many people realise. He noted that women are now just as likely as men to be unfaithful, and that more of those in both the younger and older generations are having affairs.
If you’re concerned about your partner’s fidelity, you may want to consider hiring a private detective in London to help you find out what’s going on.
